Marifer + Dimitris Baja Wedding

Marifer + Dimitris

This week we want to share with you a Baja wedding full of love with a mix of two different cultures. Being from different parts of the world this couple managed to make their special day one of the most memorable and fun Greek-Mexican weddings we have ever seen.

The couple

Marifer and Dimitris love story is quite unique. She´s from Mexico and he´s from Greece and they met while studying in Switzerland. They saw each other for the first time at lunch at university but started dating one night at a nightclub, where they talked all night long and they´ve been together ever since. They love to travel around the world together as well as cooking, eating and watching Netflix of course.

The ceremony

Marifer and Dimitris decided to have their wedding in Mexicali, the city where she’s from. The wedding ceremony began with a mix of traditions. The groom waited for the bride at the altar (as we are used to) instead of waiting for her at the entrance and walking to the altar together like all Greek weddings. Another Greek tradition during the ceremony is both bride and groom wearing a crown made of flowers tied by a ribbon known as “Stefana”. The crowns symbolically tie the couple together for the rest of their lives and are crowned to be King and Queen of their new home.

The party

Greek weddings are known to be super fun and filled with traditional music and dances, and this wedding was no exception. They played some traditional music and danced the famous “Breaking of the plates”, which we all know of. It once implied abundance, to symbolize good luck and happiness. And let’s not forget about the mexican fun traditions too! Mexicans are known to have some good parties, and the tequila shots on the dancefloor were a huge part of this mexican wedding.
